The Young America’s Foundation

Introduction

The Young America’s Foundation (YAF) is a conservative youth organization based in Reston, Virginia. Its mission is to inspire and educate young Americans about conservative principles, including but not limited to small government, individual freedom, and traditional values. YAF aims to develop the next generation of conservative leaders by providing them with resources, training, and tools to help build the conservative movement.

History

YAF was founded in 1969 by William F. Buckley Jr., who recognized the need to foster the next generation of conservative leaders and to grow the conservative movement among younger generations. The Young America’s Foundation held its first National Conservative Student Conference in 1979 and co-founded the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. In 1998, YAF purchased the Reagan Ranch to preserve President Reagan’s legacy.

Events

YAF hosts several notable events that contribute to its mission. The annual National Conservative Student Conference gathers students for a week of speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to effectively promote conservative ideas on their campuses. 

The Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara serves as a living memorial to President Ronald Reagan, providing a location for educational programs and internships that allow students to learn about Reagan’s principles and leadership firsthand. 

Furthermore, YAF offers a competitive internship program in Washington, D.C., providing students with valuable experiences working with conservative organizations, media outlets, and lawmakers. This program equips young conservatives with practical skills and establishes networks within the conservative movement.

Publications

In addition to these initiatives, YAF has produced significant publications that advance conservative thought. One notable example is “The Conservative Guide to Campus Activism and Leadership.” This comprehensive guidebook empowers conservative students with practical advice, strategies, and tips for effectively promoting their beliefs on college campuses. It offers guidance on organizing events, engaging in debates, and overcoming challenges often faced by conservative students.
