No, The Encyclopedia of Conservatism is not a charity. It is setup as a corporation with the mission of educating the world about conservatism.
Anyone is welcome to apply to be an author for the Encyclopedia. That being said, only quality content is published.
Although a formal education is not required, most authors are either professors or lawyers.
Colloquial use of conservatism is broad. Conservative political parties around the world encompass various strains of right wing thought. There are social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, libertarian leaning conservatives, and traditional conservative types.
The Encyclopedia attempts to explain the mainstream, conservative response to given issues while paying credence to differing conservative view points. Generally speaking, however, the Encyclopedia’s conservatism overlaps with the political philosophies of Edmund Burke, Roger Scruton, Russel Kirk, and other similar conservative intellectuals. In this way, the Encyclopedia is western-focused, although we aim to speak to other conservative viewpoints. Respect for tradition, limited government, objective morality, and capitalism are considered core pillars of the conservatism promoted by this encyclopedia.
Where there are varied conservative opinions, the Encyclopedia describes the different opinions, explains the reason for the differences, and tries to provide data on how prevalent the different opinions are.

Absolutely. We encourage the use of our content for academic and educational purposes. Proper citation is appreciated, and it is essential to respect copyright and attribution requirements. At the top of any article, is a “cite” feature which makes proper citation easier.
Every article is formally reviewed every two years. That being said, the nature of this Encyclopedia means that the content is largely static – the conservative response to a given topic is and will be largely the same no matter the time period.

First, only select individuals are invited to write for the Encyclopedia. These selections are based on education and expertise. The vast majority of our authors have graduate degrees and put months of work into their articles.
Second, each article undergoes numerous revisions before being published. Each article is edited by at least one other author.
Third, regular reviews of content and user-submitted suggestions/edits maintain a high standard of quality. That being said, mistakes and accuracies do slip through and we commit to rectifying these mistakes as soon as possible.

The Encyclopedia provides an extensive collection of encyclopedic articles on topics ranging from economics to social issues to historical events. Each article provides users with an understanding of the topic, the mainstream conservative response to the topic, and any dissenting conservative responses to the topic.
The Encyclopedia aims to be “unbiased” but convincing. That is, the Encyclopedia is designed so as to not be hyper-partisan in its treatment of topics, but rather to provide an easily understood explanation of why conservatives hold particular opinions.
The Encyclopedia is intended for anyone who wants to further their understanding of conservatism.
The two main audiences for the Encyclopedia are conservatives who wish to deepen their understanding of conservatism and for non-conservatives who wish to understand why conservatives think what they think.
Regardless of one’s political affiliation, students, journalists, professors, and laymen will all find value in this Encyclopedia, as it serves as the only comprehensive, conservative reference works online.
The Encyclopedia is primarily organized by category. However, users can also filter articles alphabetically. The search function is intended as the primary method of locating topics.
