About the Editor
William A. Van Den Broek founded The Encyclopedia of Conservatism in 2022. The motivation was straightforward. Conservatism gets described constantly in public life by people who have not read its texts, and there was no neutral, citation-grade reference for the tradition that anyone could open and trust. The encyclopedia exists to fill that gap: sourced, plain-spoken entries on the ideas, figures, and institutions that constitute conservative thought, written without polemic.
Alongside editing the encyclopedia, William writes and films conservative philosophical content for a general audience. The work pulls on Aristotle, Aquinas, Burke, Kirk, and Sowell, and turns those sources on the questions modern politics keeps getting wrong: virtue, the family, the inheritance of the West, and what a free society is for.

William holds an MA and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Victoria. He works in classical moral and political philosophy, with a standing interest in natural law and the political thought of the English-speaking tradition.
