Jordan Peterson

Introduction

Jordan Bernt Peterson (born June 12, 1962) is a Canadian clinical psychologist, cultural critic, and public intellectual. He is married to Tammy Roberts and has two children: Mikhalia and Julian Peterson. Peterson obtained bachelor’s degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta and a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University. 

He first gained international prominence in 2016 for speaking out against Canadian Bill C-16, which has to do with mandated use of preferred pronouns. He argues that such laws infringe upon freedom of speech and expression.

Political Beliefs

Peterson defines himself as that of a “classic British liberal” and a “traditionalist.” Peterson is a self-proclaimed critic of identity politics, political correctness, and radical ideologies. He has expressed concerns about the erosion of free speech, particularly in academic settings.  

Peterson’s views on religion and mythology have also attracted attention. He draws from his background in psychology and his understanding of archetypal narratives to analyze religious stories and their significance in human culture.
